2024 Year End Reflection Guide

2024 Year End Reflection Guide

“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom” (Ps. 90:12 ESV)

As we come to the end of the year, we invite you to take some time to prayerfully

1) Remember God’s hand in 2024

2) Reflect on your life to get a heart of wisdom,

3) Renew your life before God for 2025

4) Respond to God in prayer & surrender.

Pace yourself and enjoy your time with the “Beloved Shepherd of your soul”. You may do this reflection progressively over a few sessions or in one extended time.

1. Remember God’s hand in 2024

“You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. 19 And if you forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish.” (Deut. 8:18-19)

Start with a simple exercise to remember the things that have happened in the past 12 months. Draw a horizontal line across the middle of a landscape page, with plenty of space above and below. Prayerfully recall significant events, circumstances, people, God’s Word, books, etc. you experienced personally, professionally, spiritually, or with your family. It may be helpful to use your calendar or journals to help you to recall.

Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, please quiet my heart, help me to focus and recall…

• What am I thankful for in 2024? (Write positive memories on yellow post-it notes)

• What was difficult or painful for me in 2024? (Write negative memories on pink post-

it notes)

2. Reflect on your life to get a heart of wisdom

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)

• What was I most thankful to the Lord for in 2024? (e.g. encouragements received, achievement, etc.) Why?

• What trials and difficulties has God brought me through? What have I learned from them? What would be a good closure for me?

• What were the specific scripture verses/events/circumstances/people/etc. that God used to “speak” to me? What have I learned? Have I been obedient to His voice?

• What were some of my unresolved issues or relational tensions? What is the Holy Spirit revealing to me? (Enemy’s lies, faulty beliefs, anger, unforgiveness, bitterness, pride, etc..)

• What distracted me (both outside or inside)? What caused me to be worried/troubled and taking me away from the presence of God?

• How was my relationship with God? When was the last time I had a “prayer conversation” with Him? Am I closer to Him/ farther from Him/ stagnant? What were the reasons?

• What has God taught me about Himself (who He is and how He works)? How has that impacted my relationship with Him and others?

• Who were the people that crossed my path in 2024 that God may want me to get to know better or explore further opportunities to serve together, etc?

• How was my experience in sharing my faith with someone who wasn’t yet a Christian this year? What is God showing me? What are the areas that I can grow in?

3. Renew your walk with God for 2025

In view of the signs of the end times, how can I prepare for the Lord’s return?

Watch and Pray (Luke 21: 34-36)

34 Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

• How may I go about dealing with my unresolved issues? What is God leading me to do? (e.g. Confess, repent, forgive, reconcile, let go, etc..)

To obey what God is leading me to do, what changes do I need to make for the new year? (Stop/Start/Reduce). What support do I need so that I am empowered to make the changes?

• In what specific way can I be less self-focused and more others focused? (e.g. serving the migrants, poor, widows, orphans, special needs people, etc)

• As a steward of God’s resources, what can I share with others? (e.g. share your time, things, money, etc. with those with needs)

• From what I have learned in 2024, what is God leading me to focus on in 2025? (e.g. meeting the “needs” He has shown me, reaching out to certain people, preparing for a new direction or ministry, comforting/encouraging people, working/ partnering with others for God’s kingdom work, deepening my walk with God, etc.)

4. Respond to God and surrender

Write a prayer to the Lord as a response to His unconditional love for you.

Dear Lord, ….
